Trust rings

Reach and relaying follow how well you know someone.

The rings grow outward:

  1. Own fleet. Your own machines.
  2. Family.
  3. Friends.
  4. Work. Kept fully separate from friends.
  5. Internet. Everyone else.

The slider

By default you are reachable by, and relay for, people you know. That is all. A slider lets you widen or narrow it. At its widest you also carry encrypted traffic for strangers, which you cannot read. They never become contacts this way, and relaying never gives anyone access to your private side.

How people move in

  • Real friends are added face to face, by QR code. Never over the internet.
  • People you meet online stay in a separate, labelled tier. They cannot send you files or personal requests.
  • Trust only moves up. Meet an internet contact in person, and they can become a real friend.

Work

Your boss runs the work ring and its shared resources. Leave the job and those grants go away. Every device still approves its own rules, so even the boss cannot quietly reach into your personal phone.

Lost or copied devices

Rings reject unknown and cloned devices. Lose one, and you can shut it out from any of your other devices.
