FrameBuff

The drive

One encrypted space across every machine you own.

FrameBuff joins the disks of your machines into one drive, so a file you save on one can be reached from the others. No monthly plan, and no limit except the disks you already own.

Encrypted where it sits

Files are encrypted on disk with keys that stay on your machines. Someone who takes a disk without the keys gets nothing readable. Backups are encrypted before they leave.

A 12-word recovery phrase brings the drive back on a new machine. Keep it safe: it is the way back if every machine is lost.

Why you do not lose things

The design keeps more than one copy of your files on different machines:

  • Precious data: 3 copies, with one on a machine that is always on.
  • Ordinary and bulky data: 2 copies.
  • A separate index knows where each copy is, what it is, and whether it is alive.

Over the mesh

Big files do not cross slow radio links. A heavy file waits for a faster link, and the mesh carries only short commands about files that are already on the other side.
